Outward, Not Upward

What leadership really means at KIME
Ask someone what career growth looks like and they'll probably describe a ladder.
A bigger title.
More responsibility.
More people reporting to them.
Another rung to climb.
At KIME, we see something different.
We don't measure a career by how high someone climbs.
We measure it by how far their influence reaches.
Because leadership here isn't vertical.
It's outward.
It's not a ladder.
It's a ripple.

Most organizations define career growth by movement up an organizational chart. Promotions, titles, and larger teams become the visible markers of success. It's an understandable model—after all, organizational charts are built vertically.
At KIME, we've found that leadership doesn't always follow the same path.
Some of the most influential people in our organization don't have the biggest titles. They're the clinicians who mentor new teammates before anyone asks them to. They're the Fellows who freely share what they've learned. They're the leaders who create opportunities for others instead of simply accomplishing more themselves.
That's because we believe leadership isn't defined by authority. It's defined by influence.
Influence has a unique quality. It extends beyond the individual. When someone invests in another person's growth, the effect rarely stops there. A stronger clinician provides better care. Better care changes a patient's recovery. Better outcomes strengthen families, teams, and communities. One person's willingness to lead can ultimately affect hundreds of lives they may never meet.
That belief shapes nearly every development program we've built.
The Leadership Academy, Foundations, the High Performance Sports Medicine Fellowship, KIME University, mentorship, and subject matter expertise all exist for the same reason: to invest in people who will multiply their impact through others. These aren't isolated educational programs—they're part of a long-term commitment to developing leaders capable of elevating the entire organization.
One idea from Good to Great has stayed with us over the years:
"The right people don't need to be managed. The right people come motivated. They come excited. They're interested."
We believe that motivation already exists in the right people. Leadership, then, isn't about creating motivation—it's about creating the environment where motivated people can grow, contribute, and eventually help others do the same.
That's why leadership at KIME carries responsibility long before it carries a title.
Responsibility looks like coaching a colleague through a difficult case, sharing knowledge instead of protecting it, creating trust within a team, and choosing to leave every person a little better than you found them. Those moments often shape an organization's culture far more than a promotion ever could.
As KIME celebrates ten years, we've spent a lot of time reflecting on what has fueled our growth. While new clinics and new programs matter, they've never been the foundation of our success. Our greatest investment has always been our people.
Every graduate of Foundations. Every Fellow. Every Leadership Academy participant. Every mentor willing to invest time in someone else's development expands the reach of our mission.
When people grow, our impact grows with them.
That's the kind of leadership we're committed to building—not one measured by titles, but by the lives that are strengthened because someone chose to invest in another person.
